Our final call for nominations for Sports Awards

THIS is the final call for nominations for the 2011 Sleaford Standard Sports Awards.

We have received a good entry so far from a wide variety of sports but if you have not yet nominated someone from your school or club, now is the time to send in your nomination. We have extended the deadline to Friday, February 10.

All you have to do is pick up a nomination form from the Sleaford Standard, 28 Handley Street, Sleaford (telephone 01529 413646).

There are eight classifications: Sportsman of the Year (Solo Club Trophy); Sportswoman of the Year (Interflora Trophy); Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Boys (Sporting Lincs Trophy); Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Girls (Keith Dolby Trophy); Team of the Year (Elite Computers Trophy); Special Award for Sporting Endeavour (Pygott and Crone Trophy); Service to Sport Award (Four Seasons Trophy) and Club of the Year (Turnbull’s Trophy).

We are inviting nominations for all eight categories.

Do you know someone who has achieved success in their chosen sport (or sports) during 2011 or someone who has battled against the odds to come out on top or has shown such dedication and commitment to their sport that they are deserving of recognition?

You may wish to nominate a team which has conquered all before them or a club that has enjoyed a year of achievement and has a record of promoting and encouraging participation in their sport.

But it is not only about sporting success. Our Special Award for Sporting Endeavour will go to the team or individual that has shown remarkable fortitude and character and is an inspiration to others and, of course, our Service to Sport Award will go to someone who has selflessly dedicated much of their time and effort to promote and encourage participation in their chosen sport.

Later this month we will start our profile features on all the nominees and then, in March, the sports awards panel will meet to determine the winner of each category.

The Sports Awards presentation evening will be held in May.
