Bonus point could prove crucial

Notts Lincs & Derby Cup

Sleaford RFC Under 16s 26

Bakewell 10

FOUR tries in an efficient 26-10 win for Sleaford Under 16’s earned them a bonus point which may prove crucial if they want to progress to the semi finals.

Bakewell applied all the pressure for the first 10 minutes but it was the Red and Blacks of Sleaford who took the lead following a quick tap penalty from Rhys Thomson. The ball was passed along the back line and Peter Rowlands went over in the corner.

Sleaford held on to their five point advantage to half time having had to contend with a strong wind in their faces.

Early in the second half, Craig Anderson drove over for his first try of the season to extend the lead. But, almost immediately Bakewell hit back with a try for their first points of the game.

A determined run from Sean Bishop saw him go over in the corner, after good work from Josh Brown, who had stolen the ball from a Bakewell line-out.

The visitors scored again soon after the re-start with a run-away try conceded after a couple of missed tackles.

The all important fourth try that sealed Sleaford’s victory came as a result of the hard work of Kieron Trollope, giving Anderson the opportunity to force his way over from close range.
