Dominant Sleaford juniors claim victory in seaside battle

Sleaford Under 15s made the journey to wet and windy Skegness recently with nearly all their injured players available for selection.

The first 20 minutes were almost entirely played in the Skegness half and only poor handling by Sleaford denied them a number of scores.

Therefore it was with some relief that an error from Skegness saw Elliot Bero, back from illness, take the ball over the try line for Sleaford’s first try of the game. The resultant kick was unsuccessful.

Sleafords second try came by way of a win against the Skegness scrum and Sam Cheeks running it in under the posts. The resultant kick by Ben Hitchcock was successful.

Good pressure by both forwards and backs kept Skegness pinned. Poor handling from Sleaford denied them from adding to their score.

Skegness were rucking well and on a number of occasions were able to turn over Sleaford ball but were not able to capitalise on it.

Pressure by the forwards saw Sleaford awarded a penalty which was passed along the back line to Connor Todd who managed to avoid a number of tackles to take the ball over the try line. The resultant kick by Ben Hitchcock was successful.

The restart saw Sam Cheek run the ball up towards Skegness and pass out to Charlie Wilkinson who went in under the sticks. Conversion by Ben Hitchcock was successful.

Good work by the forwards allowed the ball to be released out to the backs and for Elliot Bero to run in for his second and Sleafords fifth. The resultant kick was unsuccessful.

A five phase play by the forwards saw them march the ball up towards the Skegness try line. Charlie Simmons sent the ball out to the backs and it was taken over the try line by Bradley Roberts. The resultant kick was unsuccessful.

Sleaford then encamped in Skegness’ 22 with a scrum on the five meter line. This was duly picked up by Theo Fells and taken over the try line for Sleaford’s seventh try and his first. The conversion was unsuccessful.

A raid in the Sleaford last third saw the ball turned over by Sleaford and kicked up the field by the No 10. Elliot Bero poached the ball and passed out to Harry Barr who was brought down. Support from both Callum Dooner and Glyn Bates saw the ball secured and picked up by Joe Shaw to take over the line for Sleafords eigth try and his first ever. The resultant kick was unsuccessful.

The final try was by Connor Todd. The resultant kick by Ben Hitchcock was successful.
