THE final outcome of this game slightly flattered Sleaford, with the contest much harder than the score reflects.
The sides were of similar stature and Sleaford had cause to be grateful to an exhilarating first 10 minutes of play when they had all the possession and put 19 points on the scoreboard.
Ashley Miller, who put in a terrific performance, was held up just short of the Norfolk line but from the ensuing five-metre scrum Callum Thomson picked up and drove over.
From the kick off Sleaford were straight back at the hosts. Following a box kick from Rhys Thomson, David Titmus picked up and ran in to double the score.
Within a minute Sleaford had scored their third try. From the re-start Callum Thomson caught the ball and then Thomson made a break to run in from the half-way line.
West Norfolk recovered well from the early battering and Thomson was called upon to make a try saving tap tackle to deny a first score for the home side.
As hard as Norfolk tried, Sleaford’s defence held firm and it was very much against the run of play when Mike Tunnicliffe, who had replaced the injured Sam Spreadborough, finished a move for a half time score of 26-0.
Another superb lineout performance from the Red and Blacks saw them dominate and when Josh Brown took Norfolk ball, a hopeful kick over the top from Titmus saw a fortunate bounce and Ian Bishop took the ball on to go in under the posts.
Ben Borrill quickly followed with his first try as good ground was made by Tunnicliffe and Brown before Norfolk deservedly scored their first.
In the final minutes of the match, Sleaford became very untidy. Tunnicliffe scored his second try of the day, while West Norfolk had the final say with two further tries to make the final score 43-17.
