Melton Mowbray 55

Sleaford 17

SLEAFORD travelled to Melton hoping for an upturn in fortune. However the side required a reshuffle with Dores filling in at full back and Fisher moved into the centre.

Melton showed from the start that they intended to use their large forwards to create space, which their backs then looked to exploit.

Unfortunately for Sleaford, their pack required another reshuffle when Beswick injured his shoulder. Melton took full advantage of this and used their scrum well to create forward balls and to tire Sleaford.

The first score came from a mistake in the Sleaford line-out that turned over the ball to Melton who created space for their winger to score in the corner.

Melton quickly scored two more tries to extend their lead. However, Sleaford never stopped trying and while there were well worked tries from Melton it was at times defensive naivety from Sleaford which allowed Melton the time and space.

In the second half Melton continued to extend their lead, but Sleaford showed that they had the ability to do damage and from a restart in the Melton 22, Kelly gathered the kick, broke the covering tackles and gave Downing the simplest of jobs to finish in the corner.

This was the catalyst that Sleaford needed and they struck once again with Mackie crashing through the covering tackles for the second try of the game for Sleaford.

Although the game had been long won by Melton, Sleaford continued to press and were rewarded with a third try for Frisby, but unfortunately that was the last play of the game.

Next week Sleaford take a break from league action and face a friendly with the opposition currently unknown.
