Sleaford RFC U15 8

Peterborough RFC U15 7

Sleaford came into this match on the back of a winning run of six consectitive games, but the opposition on this occasion were to provide a tough examination of the team’s ability and resolve.

Both teams started slowly with neither team able to dominate possession or territory, but it was Peterborough who took their first chance half way through the half with a converted try that they ran through the heart of the Sleaford defence.

Going behind shook the home side into action, with good driving runs from Kieron Wakelin and Miloe Williamson, and a good interchange of passing from Sam Cheek and Byron Slyfield on the wing, but they are unable to penetrate the Peterborough defence, and the half finished with Sleaford trailing by seven points.

The second half started as the first had finished but this time Sleaford were able to find a little extra, and after a surging run from Kieron Wakelin again and then Theo Fells, the ball was feed to Sam Check who flicked a pass with the outside of his hand to Elliot Bero to score the home side’s opening try. The conversion was not taken.

With less than five minutes to go, the pressure was all on Peterborough now, which lead to them conceding a penalty a few metres outside the twenty-two. Ben Hitchcock stepped up to take the kick, and with virtually the last kick of the game secured victory for Sleaford, winning by 8 points to 7.
