Under 17s overcome local rivals in scrappy game

Sleaford RFC Under-17s 27 Lincoln Under-17s 0

IN a scrappy game of rugby Sleaford Under 17’s continued their early NLD form with a rather flattering 27-0 victory against local rivals Lincoln.

Playing into the wind for the first half Sleaford immediately found that Lincoln were competitive up front and their backs moved up quickly and tackled hard giving Sleaford little room to stretch their legs.

The Red and Blacks soon settled any early apprehensions with an opening try after a period of prolonged pressure. The ball was moved through several sets of hands before Ian Bishop went over for the first score.

Later in the opening period Sleaford were forced to defend in numbers and did well to keep Lincoln out after 10 minutes pinned in their own 22.

Slightly against the run of play, Sleaford broke out and Ben Fulker cut inside to go in under the posts to cement a 10-0 lead.

After the break, a nice loop move from the backs was neatly finished off when Rhys Thomson delivered a pin point accurate kick for Adam Peek to race on to and touch down.

David Titmus then took advantage of a rare mistake by the Lincoln full back to score an opportunistic try in the corner.

With a bonus point secured there was still time for Bishop to score his second try as he ran onto a tapped penalty and out-paced the opposition to run round under the posts. A conversion from Ireland made the final score of 27-0.

n On Sunday, Sleaford Under-17s are away at Melbourne.
