Scott and Newman pile on the runs for Billingborough

DEFENDING champions Billingborough have not given up the fight to retain their title and closed the gap on leaders Spalding in the South Lincolnshire & Border League Division One with an easy victory against Woodhall Spa 2nd.

Geordie Scott and Dave Newman piled on the runs for Billingborough, who posted a score of 327-5. Scott went on to make 141, to take his total for the season to 865, while Newman fell two short of his century on 98. The pair shared an opening stand of 259.

Woodhall were dismissed for 181, giving Billingborough a 146-run win and 20 points.

Spalding scraped home by eight runs in their game against Skegness 2nd, but only picked up 17 points to allow Billingborough a little nearer.

Stamford defeated Sleaford 2nd after making 278 for six, with Chappelll, Williams and Bennett all making half centuries. Sleaford 2nd were then bowled out for 147.

Welby have built up an almost insurmountable lead at the top of Division Two following their 10 wicket victory over Thomas Cook in which 17-year-old Jake Pollard hit an unbeaten 52 and took five wickets for seven runs.
