Shaun is new chairman of Sleaford Town Runners

AT Sleaford Town Runners' recent annual meeting Shaun Louth was unanimously voted in as the new club chairman. He replaces Chris Smith who stood down from the post.

Shaun, who was born and brought up in Sleaford, is an experienced runner who has been running for many years, competing over various terrains in all distances up to and including numerous marathons. He is also a UK Athletics Level 2 coach.

*Sleaford Town Runners ended 2009 with a variety of races over various distances and terrain.

Dave Taylor, Cathy Davies, Aune Turkson-Jones and Fiona Robertson travelled to compete in the Edwinstowe Christmas 10k in Nottinghamshire.

Dave finished this multi-terrain race in 47mins 23secs, while Cathy, Aune and Fiona ran together and crossed the line in 57.43.

*On the same Sunday, the Nene Valley 10 mile road race was taking place in Peterborough. Andy Taylor continued his good form of late, setting a new personal best time of 1.04.05.

Other Town Runners taken part were: Katie Small, racing the 10 mile distance for the first time, 1.15.01; Paul Freemantle 1.19.15; Angie Harvey 1.20.16; Mandy Connor, also making her debut over 10 miles, 1.38.33; Lea Addlesee 1.42.08 and Shaun Louth 1.42.09.

*At Aldershot in Hampshire Chris Smith and Catherine Simpson competed in the Grim Challenge multi-terrain race held at the Army tank testing course.

It attracted 3000 competitors who ran over an 8-mile course through mud, water and navigating through camouflaged nets. Chris finished in one hour 11 minutes and Catherine in a time of 1.43.

*Stephen Brear, Catherine Sheldrake, Yvonne Fox and Sandra Sayers ran in the Santa Claus Run at Lincoln, organised by the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia of Bailgate. Stephen finished this annual 3k run in 15 mins, with Catherine crossing the line three minutes later and Yvonne and Sandra just adrift of Catherine.

*The racing year ended with the Lincoln and District Runners 6-mile cross country race on South Common, Lincoln.

Dave Tilley led home the Town Runners' contingent, followed by Simon England, Chris Smith and Dave Raynes. Catherine Simpson was the only Town Runners' lady taking part.
