Teenage race ace just misses out on podium finish

Motor racing TEENAGE motor racing star Jack Harvey, of Bassingham, picked up two more points results and narrowly missed out on a another podium finish as he raced in front of his home crowd at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone at the weekend.

Competing in the Formula BMW Europe series, the Racing Steps Foundation driver went into the biggest weekend of his career full of confidence after taking his first victory just a week earlier.

Qualifying in sixth for the first race, 16-year-old Jack was promoted to fifth on the grid after a rival was put to the back of the field for scrutineering.

Harvey held on to his fifth place on the first lap and a late charge up the inside of early race leader Michael Christensen almost bagged him fourth place. He was unable to hold his line through Club corner and had to settle for fifth at the flag.

In the second race on Sunday morning, Jack started from 14th on the grid but made a great start. By the end of the opening lap he had stormed up to 11th. Just a lap later he had moved into the top ten and at the chequered flag he was ninth overall and second in the rookie classification.

Jack said: "I'm happy with the result. I picked up more points for the championship and came home with two second place finishes in the rookie title, which is my main aim this season."

Jack now has a two week break before returning to Grand Prix supporting action at the Nurburgring in Germany.
