Sleaford Tennis Club’s men’s team enjoyed a successful 2012, which saw them gain promotion to Lincolnshire League Division Two.

The season brought an influx of new players thanks to the club’s new facilities and this strengthened the resources available to the men’s team.

They opened with a resounding 9-0 victory against Bourne 3 and followed that up by defeating Bourne 2 7-2.

The long trip to Skegness resulted in another 9-0 win for Sleaford, who added a fourth win of the season by beating potentially tricky opponents Boston 5 7-2.

Boston 6 were then summarily dismissed 9-0.

This set up a last match showdown with Woodhall Spa 1, who were also undefeated. But a strong Sleaford side swept their rivals aside 8-1.

It rounded off a perfect season for the Sleaford men’s team, who won a total of 88.6% of sets during the season as well as 75.9% of games. They lost only five rubbers all season.

The team is hoping to continue playing throughout the winter under the floodlights at the Boston Road courts and are looking forward to playing in Lincolnshire Division Two next year.

Players who turned out for the men’s team during the season were: Kev Hawkesworth, Alex Vianu, Rob Wright, Jeff Mitchell, Sam Taylor, Simon Moss, Lloyd Bailey, Nathan Gunning, Nick Mellor, Ian Jacquest, Max Duncan, Aidan Wright, Rob Wright and James Shacklock.

n Sleaford Tennis Club has now started playing club sessions under the new floodlights.
