Welbourn girl footballer (14) picked to play for England under 17s
A WELBOURN girl has seen international success after being selected to play football for England well above her age group.
Holly Crosby, aged just 14, was picked to be part of the Women's England under 17 squad at a five day training camp in Loughborough, which included playing two international matches against South Africa in between training sessions.
Holly, who plays in central midfield, has been involved in England under 15s football for the last few years after being scouted for the Lincoln City Girls Centre of Excellence.
She has been playing in the Under 12s side since she was talent spotted to play for Lincoln at the age of 11, and came to play for the Under 15s when she was old enough, before being picked for the Under 17s team this year aged 14.
The team played very well despite losing 4-1 in their first game and drawing 1-1 in their second.
Holly said: "Although we lost that game, those who watched said that we played really well and didn't deserve to lose.
"It was the best match I have ever played and it was so exciting."
Considering her age, Holly's dad Tim said that Holly played very well and he is very proud of her.
Holly has been into football from a very early age, and played for Fulbeck Mini Soccer Centre aged four and progressing through the age ranks, before joining Lincoln aged 11.
She says that her experience of playing for England was amazing and hopes to be picked again.
Holly is also hoping to be selected to represent England against Belgium at the European Championships in Belgium in early October.
