Ex-assistant head's new book

The Boy Who Preferred To Be Somebody Else is the work of Malcolm Moyes, 63, of Sleaford.

Mr Moyes retired from Carre’s Grammar School as assistant headteacher last year, having been there since 1998.

While Mr Moyes, a former English teacher, has experience in a range of writing, including academic texts and journalism, this is his first piece of fiction.

He described the book as ‘an extended piece of tomfoolery’.

It charts the early life of Arry Trumper, a malcontent and mischief-maker, whose mission in life is to expose the shortcomings of an inept and dull adult world.

Mr Moyes spent two years working on the book, which was published at the end of January. Now, with the benefit of having extra time in his retirement, he has written a sequel –which is currently with his illustrator – in just five weeks.
