Green-fingered Sleaford people are being invited to join a long-standing gardening club which describes itself a “friendly and sociable”.
Sleaford Gardening Club is aiming to recruit some new members.
The club originated some 10 years previously and current chairman Martyn Shearing joined around five years ago on his return from living in Spain, and when the then-chairman had to step down due to ill health, Martyn took on the role four years ago.
There are currently 22 active members who attend the monthly meetings, which are held every second Tuesday of the month at the Solo Club in Sleaford, starting at 7.30pm.
At each meeting the club aims to have a speaker talk to them about a variety of subjects as well as gardening, in the past enjoying visits from a guest who gave a talk about chocolate, and at the most recent meeting last week Jessica Notley came in to give a talk about willow weaving.
The rest of the meetings usually consist of a raffle and a competition for the best arranged flower posy, and a lot of members also enjoy a social drink in the bar of the club afterwards.
Every year the club also enjoys a Christmas party with food laid on by the Solo Club, and they also hold a special garden party in a member’s garden, which this year will be held at the home of affiliated member and former mayor Ada Trethewey.
Martyn said: “Many of our members come for the social side of it and not just the gardening aspects. Our numbers had become a bit depleted for various reasons and we’d love to bring more people in.”
Membership costs just £2 per month and there is a £7.50 joining fee.
