KEEN modeller Simon Askew will be giving a lecture on ‘building and flying the large model Lancaster’ at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre.
The talk organised by Friends of Metheringham Airfield will be on Wednesday July 25 at 7.30pm in the old gymnasium.
This model aircraft weighing 360 lbs made a major display at Cosford in 1996. Built by Simon Askew, it was awesome to see it flying.
Simon still likes flying model aircraft and is the competition secretary of the Melton and District Model Club having its own airfield for display purposes. About 100 members use its facilities flying all sorts of model aeroplanes.
His Lancaster bomber reached the end of its flying life time a number of years ago and in 2005 was retired and presented to the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, where it now resides on display in the old gymnasium.
It has changed its markings to the famous 106 Lancaster Squadron insignia known as ZN.
Simon will take pleasure in giving a talk about the well known model Lancaster bomber which he built, and about his adventures and experiences during that process.
Admission is £5 to visitors, to include refreshments, free to Friends of Metheringham Airfield and veterans of 106 Squadron.
