Take a journey back to the 40s

The sights and sounds of the 1940s will come into the present day at Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre this Bank Holiday Weekend.

The centre – a volunteer-run charity dedicated to preserving the memory of RAF Metheringham – holds its Wartime Weekend on Sunday and Monday, May 1 and 2.

The event is the centre’s largest annual fundraiser and will include such attractions as re-enactments, 1940s exhibits, military vehicles and cockpits, oil engines, classic cars, craft stalls, a ‘pub’ quiz, and prize draw (with a cockpit experience for two at RAF Coningsby’s Typhoon training facility as first prize).

A flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has also been requested for both days.

In addition, the museum and shop will be open and food and drink will also be available.

Gates open at 10am.

Admission for adults is priced at £5 and free for children under 16.

On Saturday, April 30, a ‘DEMOB ‘46’ dance will also be held to commemorate the closure of RAF Metheringham in 1946.

It is a ticket-only event with admission priced at £15 to include a hot buffet.

1940s dress is encouraged.
