Business manager Craig Pakes explained the foyer area is in need of a change to accommodate a planned new bar and to expand the reception area using the little used space in the cloakroom area.

He said: “We have been let down by a designer on a number of occasions, therefore we would like to appeal to the good folk of Sleaford and surrounding area and anyone who would be willing to help.”

Ideally he said they needed someone with design skills to re-jig the foyer and bar area, to do it as a project to show what they can come up with, possibly a student in design or a retired architect.

He said: “We want to keep the theatre going and current magnolia paintwork is a bit like being in a village hall. We need to make it look a bit more ‘theatre-like’.”

He said they really needed more standing room around the bar area and there is scope for moving a wall to make it less cramped.

Mr Pakes said: “We would like to start the work in the summer as we have to work around productions, which makes things challenging. It is one of only a few Georgian theatres left in the country and we want to attract more people.”

Christine Malkin, Sleaford Playhouse chairman, said: “We are looking for inspiration and ideas to maximise the available space to create a welcoming, theatre reception and bar area for our audiences to enjoy. We would welcome suggestions from anyone willing to help redesign the space.”
