Ballroom dance to the big band sounds

Ballroom dance music fans can enjoy a concert at a village venue this month.

Newark-based big band, 12 To The Bar, is putting on a concert and dance at The Venue in Navenby on Saturday, September 26.

Joint leader of the group, Robin Richards, explained they had put on a successful Valentine’s Dance in February when over 70 people attended and he hopes this one will be equally well received.

He said they will be playing ideal music for ballroom dancing or you can just get a drink from the bar and enjoy the music which will include sounds from the 1920s to 1950s by the likes of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra.

The band is a collection of friends who have played together at venues in the Newark area for 15 years. Many played together in a school band and decided to keep it up after they left. The line up is completed by both male and female vocalists and Robin said: “Occasionally we put on these events for people who like ballroom dancing to a live band, rather than just a recording.”

Tickets are £10, available from the Navenby Antiques Centre on the High Street or from The Venue.
