Crowds turn out for Christmas in the sun

Glorious sunshine met the early birds to Sleaford Christmas Market as they turned out to support the first Sleaford Santa Fun Run and Walk.

Organised by David and Kerry Anne Marshall, it saw more than 250 Santas of all ages running and walking around the town. All proceeds will go to St Barnabas Hospice.

Mr Marshall said they would like to repeat the event and thanked all those who helped make it a success.

“It has gone really well and the feedback has been good,” he said.

Zoe Hannan and Andrew Shakes Stevens both ran the course backwards hoping to set unofficial world records.

Zoe said: “We have both felt better after doing marathons.”

She added: “Next year we might do it three-legged or in a conga.”

Chairman of the Christmas Market organising team Emma Evans said the market had seen increased footfall compared to last year and thanked everyone for their support.

“A number of stallholders had not expected so many people and had to go for more stock,” she said. “I have had lots of emails from people wanting to come back. As we only had eight weeks to get it organised, it went well.”
