An avid young writer has had one of her pieces selected for a new collection of poetry about animals.
Ella Bryan, 11, became interested in writing about 18 months ago and decided to write an eight-line piece called The Woodpecker Poem, because she was in the Woodpecker Class at Kirkby La Thorpe CofE Primary Academy last year.
Proud step-dad Mark Couling said: “She wrote it out and edited it a few times then showed it to myself and her mum Nicky and we thought it was great, so she sent it in to the Young Writers Club and she has just received a certificate and news that her poem has been published in their new book - ‘Pet Poetry - Monkey Business’.
“The book was published last week. It was a bit surreal when she got the news. She was worried people would be knocking on her door looking for autographs.”
Mark added: “It is something she is quite into at the moment. She is now working on a children’s story book and a poem about her Patterdale terrier. She is showing signs of becoming really talented - maybe she will make us all rich one day!”
Ella has taken her book into school and it was shown to the rest of the pupils in a special assembly on Friday.
