Celebrate the start of 2016 with the Sleaford Concert Band this weekend as the ensemble holds its annual New Year’s Concert.

Entitled Welcome to 2016, the event takes place on Saturday at St George’s Academy, in Westgate, Sleaford, from 7pm.

Joining the band on the evening as a guest performer will be professional vocalist Heather Marie.

Heather is based in Lincolnshire, but travels across the UK singing 1940s and 1950s numbers, swing and big band, and pieces from musicals. She has appeared as a featured soloist with the Royal Air Force Squadronaires, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, and the Band of the Royal Air Force College.

A spokesman described Heather as ‘a talent not to be missed’, adding that director of music Jim McQuade has ‘once again chosen a superb program of music with some new spectacular pieces’.

The concert finale will, as always, feature highlights of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Day Concert.

Tickets are priced at £6, (£4 for under 14s) from Willcox and Carter Jewellers, in Bristol Arcade, Sleaford, Four Seasons garden centre, or they can be reserved by contacting the band direct on 07739 340661 and www.sleaford
