The actual centenary anniversary date of the WI (September 16) coincided with Wellingore WI’s regular monthly meeting and signalled the perfect opportunity for a party.

Members dressed in costumes reflecting decades of the past 100 years, from the Suffragettes to the psychedelic 60s.

They enjoyed cocktails from the ages and canapés at Wellingore Memorial Hall, where President Liz McIntosh read an extract from Jane Robinson’s history of the WI ‘A Force to be Reckoned With’, and a toast, specially-written by member Jenny Cawthorne, saluting the past and looking forward to a successful future.

Leasingham WI celebrated the following day with an exhibition of their work and history at Leasingham Village Hall.

Neighbouring WIs, local councillors and church teams were also invited to be entertained by swing music performers.
