Open Farm Sunday was celebrated locally at a site belonging to one of the country’s major chicken producers.
The event, which took place on Sunday June 7, is designed by the farming industry to promote greater understanding of what it takes to bring food from the field to your plate.
Moy Park poultry producers hosted the event at Barr Poultry Farm in Billinghay.
There you could meet the people who make the feed for the chickens, look after the birds and process the poultry products you find on supermarket shelves.
Agricultural planning manager Katie Baxter said they had over 600 visitors and raised over £200 in donations for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance appeal.
There were tractors and delivery lorries old and new to inspect, plus free tractor and trailer rides.
There were cute, day-old chicks to fall in love with and a viewing gallery to see the chickens in their sheds.
Mrs Baxter said they received a lot of positive feedback, with the company even laying on a minibus to transport Anwick residents there: “A lot of people were pleasantly suprised we were opening the doors and letting them in to look around.”
People were impressed by the state-of-the-art chicken catching machine, as well as enjoying a range of fun activities and a barbecue to sample some of the chicken products.
