Sleaford Town Team’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards is up and running.
A progress report was given by Clare Rayner, chairman of the Town Team, at the organisations’ open meeting to mark its first six months.
She said Joe Barratt, the co-founder of the Teenage Market scheme, will be one of the judges. All entrants will be vetted and given feedback before a final 10 will go through a Dragon’s Den style pitching process, with various prizes to be won to help them further their ideas.
Another project coming up this summer is the Independent Shops Expo event taking place on July 29 from 5-8pm, to be held in the Solo Club function room.
It is an opportunity for local independent businesses to showcase what they sell in the town, offering examples and tasters for people to go along and maybe pick up special offers and free gifts to encourage footfall to these businesses to redeem later.
Mrs Rayner said: “The idea came from Tara and Sadie Hurst who run Betty May Vintage and Marcus Hrubesch has supplied the venue.”
She said it is an evening event to allow people to drop in at the end of their working day. It will coincide with National Independent Retailer Month.
At the Town Team’s latest meeting, committee member Bev Jenkins reported that membership was up to 36 in the first six months and was on track to reach their target of 100 members within a year.
