It may take its name from a card game but the owners of the Solo Club are turning over different cards to widen its appeal while boosting the local economy.
Marcus and Tracy Hrubesch took over the Solo Club in Sleaford Market Place 10 months ago and are now launching a new system of membership with added benefits.
Marcus has created the Solo Card. For £15 a card or £20 for a couple, running alongside free membership to the bar, it will also offer holders 10 per cent discounts on purchases of food and drink, plus 10 per cent off standard purchases in Wiseguys clothing shop on Northgate, Beauty Cottage on Watergate, Total Sports and Supplements in Millstream Square, the Greek Taverna and Sleaford Clothing Company in the Market Place.
Marcus says he has been inspired by the drive to shop local hailed by retail guru Mary Portas. He said: “I want to help support local independent businesses. Yes, there is a small fee but the more businesses on board the greater value the card will be and you will soon get back your outlay. This is something the town traders can really get behind.”
He said he wants to push his venture forward. Since taking over he has started serving Sunday lunches and evening meals and plans to offer new outside seating and bed and breakfast.
The card goes live on July 1 but people can register in advance at the bar or call 01529 303200.
