New low for district’s jobseeker count

The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) in North Kesteven fell to its lowest point since September 2005 last month, figures released today (Wednesday, January 21) show.

The district’s claimant count dropped from 688 to 666 in December, according to Nomis, which each month publishes JSA totals based on data from the Office for National Statistics.

The figure is the lowest since September 2005 when it stood at 646.

The drop was not enough to change the proportion of people of a working age claiming JSA in the district, which stayed at one per cent.

The regional and national averages both fell by 0.1 per cent in the same time period to 1.8 and 1.9 per cent respectively.
