Shop staff are being warned to be on their guard against being passed fake money over the Christmas rush.

On Wednesday December 9, police received reports from two business premises in Folkingham village that had encountered a white male customer attempting to purchase goods with a fake £20 note.

The same has been reported from a large retail outlet in Grantham on Saturday morning, again with a white man in possession of a fake £20 note.

PCSO Sandra Brommell of Bourne and Billingborough Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “At this time it is unknown if these incidents are connected, but it is a reminder for us all not to take things on face value but to check, check and check again.

“As we find ourselves rushing around trying to get all the jobs done in time for Santa’s arrival please remember to keep your cash and cards safe when out shopping engrossed in the festivities.

“If you are a business you’ll be extra busy too but please be extra vigilant when accepting bank notes for payment.”

Call 101 if you have any information or 999 if you are aware of a crime taking place.
