Police have issued a warning to Lincolnshire residents after receiving complaints about scam phone calls claiming to be from the service designed to screen cold callers.
PCSO Guy McCusker of Lincolnshire Police said: “A resident recently received a phone call to their land line number from an Asian sounding female who stated that she was calling from the Telephone Preference Service, TPS.
“The female persistently tried to confirm many private details and requested information regarding the person’s debit card. The call was terminated by the recipient.”
He added: “Later that day another call came in from an Asian sounding male asking the same questions, this call was again terminated.
The calls were made from an unknown number.”
Residents are warned that TPS do not require any financial details from you in order to register for the service. If you get such a call, do not pass on any information whatsoever, terminate the call and make your Neighbourhood Police Team aware by calling 101.
