Parish councillors have refused a request for funding to display an unofficial road sign by a resident of Kyme Road in Heckington to help visitors struggling to find the location.
Chairman of the council, Richard Higgs, said at last Monday’s meeting: “We have a request from a resident to display an unofficial ‘Buggy Bells Lane’ road sign and asking if the parish council would be willing to pay for it.”
He said the name of the short, dead-end lane off Kyme Road, was not accepted by any authority as official, as historically it was simply a local name for a country track before houses were built there. The council voted not to contribute towards the sign.
Coun Pat Banister explained: “Back in the 1800s there was a cobbler who had a little wooden hut on the lane and his name was ‘Buggy’ Bells.”
