North Kesteven District Councillors have agreed to spend up to £4.2million on the construction of a new depot and workshop for its growing fleet of dustbin lorries at Metheringham.
The scheme will be part of the council’s capital programme for 2015/16 onwards after being backed unanimously by the full council when it met on Thursday.
Members in February last year resolved to support the principle of purchasing land at Metheringham for the construction of a new depot and workshops to the east of the village instead of the existing depot on the B1188 which was becoming too crowded for the amount of equipment needed to serve the district’s growing population. Since that time a design team had been appointed and discussions have continued with the landowners.
Metheringham is the ideal location being roughly central. Purchase of the site should be finalised this month.
