Sleaford and District Royal British Legion are holding their 10th annual Poppy Prom at St George’s Academy in Sleaford, on Saturday, October 22.
The theme of the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will reflect the 100th anniversary of the land Battle of the Somme and the sea Battle of Jutland.
Special guest is Terry Whittles, national chairman of the Royal British Legion.
Last year the event helped take the branch’s Poppy Appeal total to more than £36,000.
Jim McQuade, director of music for Sleaford Concert Band, has confirmed there will be a world premiére – a piece of music, as a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the Lancaster. ‘Bomber Boys’ has been arranged by a member of the band.
Branch chairman Clive Candlin said: “It is a stunning piece of music that is also linked to a video.”
Professional violinist, Steve Clark, will perform the theme from Schindler’s List and The Ruffs will perform their emotional song, Gallipoli. The second half is a Last Night of the Proms.
Tickets: Wilcox and Carter, Bristol Arcade, Sleaford; the Co-op on Lincoln Road; the Co-op in Heckington and The Coffee Pot Café, Ruskington. Or call 07938 575385. Tickets will also be available on the door.
