Stubble field fire at Helpringham

Four firecrews have been called out this afternoon (Thursday) to a stubble fire in a field at Helpringham.

The incident was reported at 1.16pm where four acres of stubble and straw were said to be on fire on Scredington Road.

Crews from Billingborough, Donington and two from Sleaford attended and used hosereels, beaters and knapsack sprayers to extinguish the fire.

A fire service spokesman said the blaze is thought to have been caused by an overheated bearing within a combine harvester.
