Women’s Institute – Four WI members were honoured to attend the garden party at Buckingham Palace as part of the centennial celebrations to recognise the WI nationally.

The Duchesses of Cornwell and Gloucester, the Countess of Wessex and Princess Alexandra were present at the event.

A further event two days later saw more Leasingham members visiting London, this time for the Women’s Institute annual meeting when the Queen, the Countess of Wessex and Princess Anne were all in attendance.

Leasingham will be holding its own celebrations with an open day in the village hall on Thursday, September 17, from 10 am to 5pm, with free entry, refreshments and entertainment from singer Heather Marie.

At the last meeting of the WI, Alan Bolt was the guest and he entertained with music and humour.

The next meeting of the group will be in the village hall tomorrow (Thursday) between 1.30pm and 4pm, when members will be getting a few tips from Stuart Gibbons on safety and crime prevention.

Visitors and new members are welcome. Contact the president, Jean Cox, on 01529 413969.

Summer fete – St Andrew’s School will be holding its summer fete in the school grounds on Friday, July 17, from 3.15pm.

There will be balloons on sale, tombolas, raffle, a barbecue, variety of other stalls and games along with ice-creams, cakes and a bouncy castle.

The PTFA will be putting the proceeds of the event into projects that the school is working on presently.

Over 60s – The next meeting of the Over 60s Club will be in the village hall on Wednesday, July 22, from 2pm when the usual table games will be played. New members are most welcome.

Fitness group – The Move Forward Fitness Sessions that are held on both Mondays and Tuesdays in the village hall will not be running from July 12 to 24.

Women’s Institute – The group will be holding a special summer event on Wednesday, July 15, from 5pm to 7pm.

This summer garden party will mirror (on a substantially smaller scale), the special royal garden party hosted by The Queen on June 2, for members of the WI in this, our centenary year.

Members will dress in their best to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea in the gardens of Rose Cottage, High Street, Wellingore, which is a really lovely setting.

Member Jean Waudby, who attended the royal event, will be dressed as she was on the big day and will tell everyone about the occasion.

Lincolnshire South federation chairman Debbie Venn will attend to present Jenny Cawthorne with a silver salver won as first prize for the photographic competition held at this year’s Lincolnshire Show.

As an institute, Wellingore also won third prize in the WI Co-operative competition at the Show, and a replica of the prize winning entry.
