Sleaford 2nd moved up to second place in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division following an excellent 52-run victory against Bourne at London Road.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sleaford made solid if unspectacular progress throughout against a strong Bourne team who came into the fixture in the runner-up position. The home side totalled 217 before being dismissed, with several batsmen making useful contributions.
When the visitors batted, Sleaford’s bowlers produced a fine all round display to prevent their visitors from threatening the required total, with the entire bowling unit making a valuable contribution. Giles Goddard was to be the team’s most successful bowler, finishing with 4-54 as Bourne were dismissed for 165.
In contrast, another inadequate batting performance by Sleaford in the ECB Premier League condemned them to a 44-run defeat after their bowlers had done well to restrict Bourne to a total of 224, with Nick Goacher and Sumit Puri sharing seven wickets.
On Sunday, the first XI, sponsored by Specsavers, had a comfortable victory against Middle Rasen who were dismissed for 115, a total that Sleaford passed in only 16 overs, with Simon Godby making an unbeaten 73.
The Academy, sponsored by Turnbulls, went down to defeat at Horncastle where they were only able to post a total of 73 on a bowler-friendly wicket, but fought hard to take six of the home side’s wickets before the close.
This weekend, Sleaford first XI, sponsored by Wright Vigar, entertain Louth in an ECB Premier League fixture on Saturday, whilst the second string travel to Long Sutton for their South Lincs and Border Premier League encounter.
On Sunday, the first XI are at Hartsholme, with The Academy entertaining Woodhall Spa.
