Sleaford Town Res 1
Sleaford Town Reserves booked their place in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup with a 1-0 victory away at Cleethorpes.
The visitors dominated the first half, with strikers Stephen Garfoot and Harry Ginniff causing havoc in the home defence.
Midfielder Lee Llewellyn had a tremendous game in the middle of the park, breaking up play and distributing the ball all around the pitch.
On the half-hour mark, Daniel McNamara was put through in the box. Unselfishly he pulled the ball back to Garfoot, who dropped his shoulder, lost two defenders and rifled the ball into the bottom corner to give Town Reserves a well deserved lead.
In the second half Cleethorpes showed more desire than the visitors. They piled on the pressure but came up against a very strong, spirited Sleaford defence.
With only 30 seconds left, Sleaford’s Casey Kemp was hauled down in the box. Ginniff stepped up to take the penalty but his effort was well saved.
The rebound fell to David Cook only for the referee to blow the full-time whistle as the ball was about to cross the line.
