Sleaford 0 - 2 AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Sleaford Town boss Brian Rowland believes his team didn’t do too badly against Rushden and Diamonds during their 2-0 loss on Saturday.

After promising signs in previous matches in the United Counties League Premier Division, town were no match for the table-topping Diamonds at Eslaforde Park.

Rowland said: “Considering they are top of the league I don’t think we did too badly.

The first goal came when Diamonds’ Richard Bunting put the visitors in front eight minutes in.

Rowland said: “It was a terrific goal from outside the box and into the top corner, we didn’t have a chance.

“All the while it was one nil Sleaford was in with a chance and as the game went on I thought we did well, but neither side created a lot of chances.”

He praised the teams back line for defending well.

Tom Lorraine sealed the Diamonds success after 70 minutes, reacting quickest to slot home after a header was blocked on the goal line.

Town have had a series of good results lately and have ended up sat at 13th in the UCL Premier League.

Sleaford next face Long Buckley at home on Saturday before heading to Boston Town next Tuesday, games Rowland thinks should give Town some points.

He said: “These are two games we’re hoping to get something out of. We’re confident we can do well.”
