Sleaford Town made extra time progress to progress in the FA Vase, beating Peterborough Sports 3-2 after it ended 2-2 after 90 minutes at Lincoln Road on Saturday.

Sports were unable to match their FA Cup heroics and Sleaford took the lead with a 30th minute penalty by Harry Millard after Ollie Medwynter tugged back George Asplin and was red carded.

It looked bleak for the 10 men when the in-form Ryan Oliver doubled Sleaford’s lead with a right footed lob after 53 minutes.

But Sports are made of stern stuff and they fought back with a 79th minute Jordan Macleod goal. In the last of the 90 minutes, Macleod hauled his side back on equal terms.

There was to be no happy ending for the home team though as Oliver won the contest for Sleaford four minutes into extra time to take them through to the second qualifying round.

Sleaford: McGann, Greenwood, Hollingworth, Price, Ward, Brown, Anderson (Hockin), Smith, Oliver, Millard (Shaw), Asplin (Tunstall).

l The leadership of the United Counties Premier Division changed hands as Sleaford Town stormed to the top on goal difference by beating the former pacesetters Yaxley at Eslaforde Park on Tuesday.

Ryan Anderson’s cross shot gave the Greens the lead after 23 minutes and 10 minutes later they doubled their advantage as Joe Smith converted a Ryan Oliver pull back.

Yaxley’s comeback hopes were dashed before the interval when Deakan Napier was red carded for dissent.

An Oliver brace after 51 and 52 minutes sealed the Sleaford success and took the marksman to second place in the Premier Division scorecharts.

Sleaford: McGann, Newman, Llewellyn, Price (Millard), Ward, Fenton, Anderson (Hockin), Smith (Tunstall), Oliver, Braithwaite, Asplin.

Sleaford are now down to fourth in the league and visit AFC Kempston Rovers on Saturday, kick-off 3pm. The Greens are at home next Wednesday when the visitors are Harrowby United, kick-off 7.45pm.
