Sleaford Seconds edged out local rivals Welby in the tightest game of the day in the South Lincolnshire and Border League Premier Division on Saturday.

Simon Godby hit 69 and Phil Sneath 51 as Sleaford finished on 228 for eight. Darren Bradbury then made 58 to help Welby towards their target before Godby ended a good day by dismissing three of the visitors’ lower order for ducks to give him five for 50 as Welby fell three runs short of the Sleaford total.

At the top of the table, Grantham were crowned Premier Division champions without facing a ball after Skegness 2nd were forced to concede their game due to lack of players. This gave Grantham 20 points which meant that, despite Boston also gaining 20 against Stamford, the leaders could not be caught.

Bee scored the division’s only century. He made 115 in Woodhall Spa 2’s win over Long Sutton.

The top of Division One is still in the balance, Market Deeping 2nd missing the chance to consolidate top place after going down to Cavaliers by 13 runs, with Billingborough 2nd also losing out to Long Sutton 2nd.

Grantham 2nd moved to the top with a win over Heckington, with Oliver Clawson scoring 100 not out. And Spalding 2nd kept their hopes of promotion alive with a win over Boston 2nd. Grantham, Spalding and Billingborough each have one game to play this weekend while Deeping have completed their season.
