BOWLS: Sleaford’s Bird exit national championships in semi-finals

Sleaford Town Bowls Club’s Andrew Bird represented Lincolnshire in the World Bowls Four Wood National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa last week.

He won through four rounds, beating opponents from IoW, Hampshire, Surrey and Bedfordshire before losing 19-21 in the semi-final to Ben Sherwen (Whitehaven) who went on to win the final.

l At the Sleaford League finals day held at Bristol BC, the final of the ladies’ singles was between Joan Gilbert and Gillian Annison of the Town club. In a tight game, Joan turned out to be the winner 21-18.

l Playing at Immingham in the EBA Championship, the Town lost to Carters Park on all three rinks by 11 shots in the semi-final. The winners beat Perry’s Sports in the final.
