Sleaford Girls U18 62 v 7 Ashfield Girls U18

The Sleaford and Spalding U18 girls met an Ashfield side at home in round two of their league round robin.

On a warm but windy day on a good running pitch the Under 18 girls match was played as a 10 a-side, with both sides missing some players.

With plenty of ball throughout the match due to the strong pack performance, the girls made the most of the space and were able to score regularly from open play and were well clear by half time.

A try by Ashfield after the break was the visitor’s only consolation and the girls closed out the game strongly. Following injuries the game went to nine a-side and uncontested three girl scrums in the last quarter but this made little difference to the run of play.

Coach Neil Speechley described the match as ‘awesome’ adding: “The pack won the game and the backs showed by how much they ran riot. It was a dream game from our side. The pack took the ball against the head almost every time and we even took a text book lift line out! The girls didn’t rise to any foul play and will be hard to beat if they continue. I am extremely proud of every player.”

Special mention goes to Poppy Moulis (Spalding) who scored her first try on her first outing for the team and to Sarah Bill who scored two tries and kicked five conversions (Player of the match). However this was a great team performance.

Team: Hannah Doody; Charlotte Hancock; Hannah Dennis (c) try; Georgia Markham; Alex Parker; Sarah McConchie try; Sarah Bill 2 tries and 5 conversions Player of the match; Bethan Owen 2 tries; Jaz Clark 3 tries and 1 conversion; Emily Perrins; Poppy Moulis (Spalding) try.
