League leaders Melton Mowbray powered to a 48-0 victory over Sleaford RFC 1st XV on Saturday.

Hosts Sleaford, lying in mid-table in the Midlands Division Three East (North), entered the game in reasonably confident mood after a good recent win against a decent Kesteven side.

Indeed it was the home side who took the early initiative, and came at the visitors with some pace.

But Melton always looked threatening whenever they attacked.

From the moment they claimed their first try through Chris Rose, diving in at the corner, the outcome was rarely in doubt.

By half-time, Melton, who have all but secured the league title, had built up an unassailable 38-0 lead.

It was tighter in the second half, when Sleaford restricted Melton to just 10 points.
