Sleaford Barge under 16 Typhoons netball team are celebrating getting through to the National Qualifying Tournament.
It will be held at Redbridge Sports Centre in Essex on May 2-3 when the Sleaford girls will be one of 18 teams from regions across the country to compete for the national title.
To qualify they had to play nine teams from the East Midlands and finish in the top two at Loughborough University.
The team’s determination and efforts secured a second place victory, only losing by one goal, 25-26, to the first-place team from Northamptonshire, Futureprint.
Sleaford’s match scores: Lambs(Leic) 27-8, JMs (Northants) 22-11, Allestree(Derbys) 39-16, Cliftonettes Gold (Notts) 39-9, Rutland Rockets (Leics) 19-16, Cliftonettes Blue (Notts) 29-10, Ripley(Derbys) 30-7.
It was a very tense match against rivals Brigg (Lincs) as this was a crucial match to determine who would go through to the nationals. After the first quarter the score was level at 2-2. During the second half, the game had to be stopped because of a leakage on the court due to a heavy downpour and the score was 7-7. When the game resumed it was goal for goal and there was no room for errors. The third quarter score ended at 12-11 to Sleaford Barge. Both teams battled it out with every shot at goal having to count. Sleaford Barge managed to keep their composure and ended the game 19-17.
