Sports mad air cadet Sarah Daffy of 2160 (Sleaford) Squadron has been recognised for her all round ability with a special award.
At the recent ATC Wing swimming championship, Sarah was presented with the award of Trent Wing Sports Personality of the Year for 2014.
Eighteen year old Sarah admitted she was both surprised and delighted to receive the trophy from the ATC Trent Wing Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Tony Wright.
Her selection for the award was hard fought and particularly notable, with potentially more than 1,400 other cadets in the field.
Sarah feels receiving such an accolade is the culmination of her ATC sporting career.
She has represented her squadron up to national level in track and field athletics, netball and hockey, all sports in which she excels.
She said: “I was at the swimming event, which ironically is the one area I don’t do too well in, when it was announced that I was to be the Trent Wing sports cadet of the year. I was very surprised. I guess my strengths have to be in athletics and hockey but I really enjoy netball and five-a-side football.”
Sarah must now await the outcome of the contest for Regional Sports Personality for 2014, which will be announced later this month, to see if she can add yet another trophy to her collection.
In view of her contribution to various regional ATC sports teams, her squadron is confident she may be in with a chance of landing the regional honour.
