The second annual Open Studios event on Sunday (April 21) from 10am to 4pm celebrates the thriving creativity in the Wolds, with plenty of work by local artists to view and purchase, plus hands-on experiences with clay.

There will be 19 ceramic artists, many of whom started their clay journey at Oxcombe but now exhibit and sell their work in galleries and shows across the UK, will be demonstrating all kinds of clay work from thrown tableware and statement bowls to hand-built sculpture and keepsakes.

Most of the work on sale is high-fired stoneware, making it safe for domestic use in the oven, freezer, or microwave or for all-year-round display in the garden.

One such artist is Sophie Olivant, creator of the Oxcombe Range, which debuted at the Country Living Christmas Fair last year.

Visitors are invited to experience clay for themselves, with Sophie and Oxcombe tutor Nicki Jarvis offering the opportunity to ‘have-a-go’ at throwing a pot.

Children are also welcome to create a decorative ceramic sculpture with artist Ruth Stanley to take home, using air-hardening clay.
