Lincolnshire landmarks and buildings light up in purple for Holocaust Memorial Day

Landmarks and buildings in Sleaford and Lincolnshire joined others around the country in lighting up in purple yesterday evening (Wednesday) to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day

The aim was to not forget the atrocities and lasting trauma left by the Nazis in the Jewish Holocaust, with the theme, Light the darkness and remember.

North Kesteven District Council illuminated its Lafford terrace offices and Lincolnshire Police lit up its Nettleham headquarters.

At 7pm an online ceremony was held to commemorate holocaust and genocides, this was followed at 8pm when people were invited to safely place a candle in their window.NKDC commented: "Hardly a landmark of national renown alongside the Houses of Parliament or the London Eye but we’re equally proud to have lit our council building in Sleaford as a purple beacon of solidarity in the darkness."

They added: "Committed to strong, safe, caring, considerate, tolerant, just and flourishing communities."

Sharing images of the event, Lincolnshire Police tweeted on social media a quote from the Diary of Anne Frank: "What is done cannot be undone, but one can prevent it happening again.”
