A week of special commemorations will reach their crescendo with a rendition of The Last Post, performed by the Band of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, at Lincoln Castle on Thursday at 4.30pm.

The public are welcomed to the South Lawn at Lincoln Castle where a special antiphonal performance featuring the RAF band and buglers will take place in view of Poppies: Wave.

The free event will culminate in a flypast of a Battle of Britain Spitfire (weather permitting) just after 5pm.

During the evening, 26 names will be read out of people from Lincolnshire that lost their lives during the Battle of the Somme.

County councillor Nick Worth, executive member for culture and heritage, said: “This has been an extraordinary week, beginning last Friday when 1,200 people attended the ceremony at Lincoln Castle and honoured the fallen with a two minute silence. Thursday’s event brings the week’s commemorations to a close and I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to be part of this very special moment to remember the fallen.”
