The friendly faces at Blanchard’s delicatessen and coffee shop - a tradition since 1922 - were an aspect that Peter and Muriel Goodall were keen to keep up when they took over the business in 1989.
Their efforts paid off in 1991 when customers voted them top in the Chamber of Commerce Service Awards. Mr Goodall put it down to his 20 staff, some had been working there for 18 or 19 years.
Mr Goodall also made sure he joined the Chamber of Commerce when he took over the business and later became one of the committee members.
