Cancer-battling Carnival Queen to be guest of honour at charity ball

Cathy Ramond, 42, is organising the ball and Sleaford’s current Carnival Queen, Sarah Durkan, will be speaking about how Macmillan has helped her fight with cancer.

Cathy, a student social worker, has lost many friends and family to cancer and so decided to fund raise for these two charities.

The ball is on October 1 at Kelham Hall, Newark. There will be a red carpet and drinks reception, with entertainment by a harpist and magician, plus fireworks, three course dinner and five piece live band with an X Factor contestant.

There will also be a fun day during the day at Kelham Hall.

Single mum Sarah Durkan was diagnosed with Sarcoma, a rare slow-growing and incurable form of cancer on her ribs, in November 2013. She has juggled caring for her eight year old son, Jack, studying for a university degree in Business Management and supporting friends also going through cancer, while having her own treatment and surgery and says she could not have done it without the support of Macmillan.

Young Billy Torr, 13, who has autism, life limiting conditions and is in end stage renal failure will also be attending, having recently been granted a wish by Starlight, the wish granting charity, to fly in a helicopter with his family over Nottinghamshire.
