Kenwick Park Golf: Dixon secures tree-mendous medal win

It is an honour that is 100 per cent deserved for a man who is fondly known as Mr Kenwick by the members.

* A field of 99 men played in the July medal which brought a win for Chris Dixon despite his ball coming to rest in the middle of a tree on the 16th hole and costing him a double bogey.

Chris won Division One with a tremendous score of 79-13=66, a shot better off than runner-up Joe Howden (77-10=67) who edged Paul Dewhurst (74-5=69) into third.

A lesson from head coach Paul Spence before walking to the first tee paid off for Nick Cudmore as he shot a great 82-14=68 to win Division Two.

Paul Corby was second with 86-19=69 ahead of Mark Squires (88-17=71).

* An entry of 36 men played in the new nine-hole summer series stableford.

Matt Chandler (26) had a great score of 23 points to claim victory and reduce his handicap by two shots, while Ryan Dixon (17) was runner-up with 22. Dan Mountain (13) took third place with 21 on countback from Martin Laking (18).

* A stunning round of 48 points by Sandra Crow (11) and Bridget Hardaway (24) sealed victory in the qualifying round of the Ping Better Ball competition.

Their score included a birdie three for five points for Bridget at the fourth hole, and a birdie four for four points for Sandra at the 16th. Lady captain Penny Buckley (24) and Jane Briggs (22) scored 44 to finish second.

Tracey Stobart scored her first hole-in-one at the 143-yard par three 17th during the Ping competition. Fittingly, she used her new Ping G seven wood to do this.

The ball hit the green, took two bounces before disappearing in the hole, a feat which Tracey celebrated by buying all of the ladies a glass of Pimms.

* The ladies were also able to play 18 or nine-hole stablefords as an alternative to the Ping competition.

Pam Westthorp (20), won the 18-hole with 37 points, and Jill Dale (26) won the nine-hole with 18.
